Lesson 6.1: Final Project - Negotiation in Action

Congratulations on reaching the final module of Negotiation 101! Now it's time to put everything you've learned into practice with a real-world project: Negotiation in Action!

The goal of this final project is to apply your negotiation skills to a real-life scenario, allowing you to experience the negotiation process firsthand and reflect on your growth throughout the course. Here's an overview of the project:

  1. Choose a scenario: Select a real-life negotiation scenario, such as negotiating a salary, buying a car, or resolving a conflict with a roommate. This scenario should be meaningful to you and present a challenge that requires you to use the skills you've learned throughout the course.
  2. Prepare: Identify the interests and positions of all parties involved in the negotiation. Consider potential areas of commonality and conflict, and plan your approach accordingly.
  3. Communicate: Engage in active listening and ask open-ended, probing, and clarifying questions to gather information, build rapport, and encourage collaboration.
  4. Strategize: Determine whether an integrative or distributive negotiation strategy is most appropriate for your scenario. Develop a plan that incorporates the key principles of your chosen strategy.
  5. Manage emotions and conflict: Anticipate any emotional triggers or potential conflicts that may arise during the negotiation. Develop strategies for managing emotions and resolving conflicts effectively.
  6. Negotiate: Conduct the negotiation, applying the skills, strategies, and techniques you've learned throughout the course. Stay flexible and adaptive, adjusting your approach as needed based on new information and feedback.
  7. Reflect: After the negotiation, reflect on the process and outcome. What worked well? What could have been improved? How have your negotiation skills evolved throughout the course?

By completing this final project, you'll have a chance to experience the negotiation process from start to finish and gain valuable insights into your own negotiation style and strengths. This hands-on experience will help solidify your learning and set you on the path to becoming a skilled and confident negotiator.
